Grandson of Morris On has distinguished ancestors: it's 30 years since Hutchings produced Morris On, a collection of traditional tunes for the Morris dance played by a group of folk luminaries, now reckoned to be among the most influential albums in British folk music. In the interim there was Son of Morris On (1976), and now comes Hutchings' brain grandchild--essentially, as before, a set of traditional Morris melodies such as "Glorishears", "Shepherds' Hey" and "The Blue Eyed Stranger", as well as songs and rhymes, but with a sprinkling of new tunes and new dances, mirroring how both Morris dancing and the music that accompanies it have broadened their repertory. In Hutchings' words, "It reflects what I think the modern Morris scene is about." The settings are various combinations of melodeon, fiddles, guitar, harmonica and other instruments, played by a cast that includes old Albion Band hands Ric Sanders and Dave Whetstone and Hutchings' current partner in the Ridgeriders, Phil Beer. --Tony Russell

His works with the Ridgeriders and more recently 'Lark Rise' to Candleford television series has helped launch him once again into the TV market and into the living room of millions. Ridgeriders, hosted by Nick Knowles had a 5 season run plus a special and Christmas Meridian television broadcast a concert. About the Artist

Ashley Hutchings did the very first Morris On release in 1972, followed by Son of Morris On in 1974. Thirty years on almost to the month Grandson of Morris On hits the streets. The tradition of the same design cover along with such luminaries as Phil Beer, Chris Leslie and Simon Care helped it to reignite interest in Morris music again and helped start a surge in Morrois dancing across the land.
