In October 2023, Mikhail Pletnev and the newly formed Rachmaninoff International Orchestra (RIO) under the direction of Kent Nagano presented an extraordinary performance of all four piano concertos by Rachmaninoff, as well as the rhapsody on a theme of Paganini. The year 2023 marked the 150th birthday of composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, whose works are prized for their drama, passion and technical sophistication. In the piano repertoire, there is hardly any greater challenge than the performance of all of Rachmaninoff's piano concertos - and hardly an artist who would have coped with this task better than Mikhail Pletnev. This concert was rounded off by Kent Nagano, who conducted Pletnev and the orchestra with usual sovereign hand and unwavering confidence. Now this recording also appears on Blu-ray.
